Assam unites in prayer: Governor and CM lead all-faith meet for armed forces amid ‘Operation Sindoor’

GUWAHATI, May 10: In a rare and moving display of unity, Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led an all-faith prayer meet at the Raj Bhavan on Saturday, joined by leaders and followers of major religious communities.

The gathering was held to offer collective prayers for the well-being of the nation and to express gratitude to the Indian Armed Forces engaged in ‘Operation Sindoor’.

The event brought together spiritual representatives from Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Sikhism, Buddhism, Jainism, and others—highlighting India’s strength in diversity and shared commitment to peace and national unity.

Governor Acharya, addressing the gathering, called the event a reflection of India’s deep-rooted values. “Moments like these reaffirm our collective goodwill and remind us of the strength that lies in unity across faiths,” he said.

Chief Minister Sarma, in his remarks, paid tribute to the Armed Forces for their courage and sacrifice. “Terrorism is the enemy of humanity. We must root it out with the power of unity and positivity. Only then can India truly become a Vishwa Guru,” he said.

The solemn gathering was attended by several key figures including ministers Urkhao Gwra Brahma, Jayanta Malla Baruah, and Nandita Garlosa. Also present were Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, DGP Harmeet Singh, Vice Chancellors of multiple universities, and officers from the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and CRPF.

The all-faith meet served not just as a prayer service, but as a powerful message of Assam’s unity with the armed forces—and a public reaffirmation of peace, solidarity, and national spirit.
