Assam: Villagers Outraged Over alleged Irregularities in JJM Scheme in Boko

Must read

Boko, June 7: Residents of Turukpara village under the Boko revenue circle of Kamrup district are expressing outrage over the alleged irregularities and mismanagement in the implementation of JJM schemes by the Boko sub-division of the state Public Health Engineering (PHE) department.

Locals allege that the contractor assigned to the subdivision has installed water pipes, posts, and taps in places far away from residential areas, violating the guidelines.

The irregularity came to light after locals discovered that many water pipes, posts and tapes installed in the outer areas of Turukpara village were lying idle. It is worth mentioning that a single set of pipe, post and tape in the JJM scheme costs around three thousand rupees.

Surprisingly, the Turukpara Water Supply scheme is presently in running condition on papers. Pradip Kalita, a PHE official, said, “We handed over the scheme to the Boko Block Development office and the village committee after our department finished working on the JJM Scheme.”

However, locals allege that the main water supply project located in the village is in pathetic condition, contrary to the departmental claims. Upon investigation, it was found that the main filter and the water supply tank were full of algae and tree leaves, making it unhealthy to drink.

When this reporter tried to contact the SDO of Boko PHE, Mukut Barman, he refused to comment. However, PHE official Pradip Kalita said the scheme was handed over to the village committee and the Boko Block office after completion.

On the other hand, locals also alleged that a part of Turukpara village has yet to receive JJM Scheme water since its inception. However, they got potable water supply during the previous scheme earlier to JJM. Villagers from that area reported the issue to the Boko PHE many times, but they have yet to meet SDO Mukut Barman, as office staff informed them that he rarely comes to the office.

Commenting on this, Boko PHE official Pradip Kalita, said, “We have not yet counted how many households are not getting supply water.”

When informed about this matter, Dibash Bordoloi, Boko Revenue Circle officer assured that he would check the matter and resolve it in coordination with the Boko PHE.
