Guwahati, Aug 12: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday received Assam’s pride Olympic bronze medallist and pugilist Lovlina Borgohain after she landed at the LGBI Airport at 9.20 am.
She was welcomed with Bihu dance and song as an honour for scripting history at Tokyo Olympics. She became the first Assamese to secure a medal for Assam in Olympics.
Talking to reporters outside the airport, Lovlina said, “First of all I thank the people of Assam for supporting me. I am so excited and thank you for your love and support. I regret not being able to go to my village (Baromukhia at Borpathar in Golaghat district) but am so happy to finally be here in my home state.”
She added, “I am so happy to win a medal for India but I regret not being able to win a gold medal.”
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “With pride and glory, I welcomed our star Olympian medalist Lovlina Borgohain at Guwahati airport. Lovlina has ignited a billion dreams with her success in Tokyo Olympics 2020 and set an example for budding sports talent in the rural areas to aspire for achieving big at the world stage.”

Members of organisations such as the All Assam Students Union, Asam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, among others also were present at the programme at LGBI airport to welcome the Olympian.
The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) has introduced a customised charter bus, which will take Lovlina Borgohain to her hometown in Golaghat district.
“You Are The PRIDE of INDIA”, read a quote posted on the exterior of the bus.
