Assam: Wild elephant succumbs to train collision near Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary in Jorhat

Guwahati, Jan 7: An elephant lost its life in a collision with the down Vivek Express near Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary on Saturday night in Assam’s Jorhat district. The unfortunate event occurred when a herd of wild elephants was passing through the area. The impact caused one of the elephants to be struck by the train, resulting in its death as it came under the engine.

After the tragedy, the collision led to technical issues with the train’s engine. The carcass was eventually removed from the tracks, and the train resumed its journey the following morning after the technical problems were rectified.

Upon learning of the incident, forest officials swiftly arrived at the scene to prepare for a post-mortem examination of the elephant’s carcass.
