Assamese filmmaker Bhaskar Kiran Bora releases ‘Jaiñtia Pahar’, a book on Pnar culture and history

Jowai, July 11: A book titled ‘Jaiñtia Pahar’, an Assamese book written by Assam based filmmaker, Bhaskar Kiran Bora was released by the Dolloi of Elaka Jowai, Puramon Kynjing at the latter’s office on Wednesday.

The book is based on Bhaskar’s experience during his two decades visit to Jaiñtia Hills about the Pnar people, their culture, the Niamtre religion, the history, etc.

Prior to the book’s release, a short meeting was held where Bhaskar informed how he was captivated by the culture of the Pnar people 20 years ago when he attended the annual Behdieñkhlam Festival and since then he has continuously visited Jaiñtia Hills multiple times to learn more about the people and their culture.

Bhaskar further informed that his wife, Mrs Priyam Bora, encouraged him to pen the book and he plans to translate the same into English.

While Puramon Kynjing congratulated Kiran for his achievement, he hoped that the people from Assam and Assamese reading people will know more about the Pnars’ culture and their history.
