Guwahati, Jan 13: Renowned Assamese vocalist Rajeev Sadiya, celebrated for his contributions to Assam’s rich cultural heritage, passed away on January 13 after collapsing on stage during a live performance at a Bhogali Bihu celebration in Phillobari, Tinsukia district.
The tragedy struck as Sadiya’s soulful music enthralled the audience, leaving them stunned when he suddenly collapsed mid-performance. He was immediately rushed to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) for treatment, but despite the efforts of the medical team, he could not be revived.
Doctors confirmed that the 56-year-old artist suffered a fatal heart attack. His untimely demise has cast a pall of gloom over Assam’s cultural and music circles. Fans, fellow musicians, and cultural organizations have been expressing their grief and condolences, with heartfelt tributes pouring in on social media.
Rajeev Sadiya’s contributions to Assamese music have left an indelible mark, making his passing a significant loss to the state’s cultural fabric. Prominent artists and well-wishers have extended their sympathies to his bereaved family, honouring the legacy of a voice that resonated deeply with the people of Assam.
