Guwahati, Mar 4: A video circulating on social media on Monday allegedly showing the daughter of former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta assaulting a driver.
The woman, identified as Jonmani Kashyap, alleged the driver verbally abused her under the influence of alcohol.
In the clip, a man is purportedly seen kneeling as Mahanta’s daughter hurls abuse at him and hits him with a slipper.
The incident took place inside the high-security MLA Hostel in Dispur.
As the video went viral, Jonmani Kashyap defended her actions, stating that the driver had been working for their family for years but often misbehaved under the influence of alcohol.
“But he is always drunk and passes comments on me. Everyone knows about it. We tried to make him understand and told him not to do so. But it crossed all limits when he started pounding on my door at our house today,” she said.
When questioned about why she did not file a police complaint, Kashyap did not provide a direct answer, instead expressing concern about the common tendency to blame women in such situations.
