Guwahati, July 18: After advent of monsoon rains, dengue cases has been rises in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district after 90% of dengue cases has been reported in the last five days.
Over 200 more dengue infections have been confirmed by the state health department in Assam, taking the total positive cases of the season to 764 as on Monday evening.
“Of the 229 dengue cases confirmed during this period, 92% are from Karbi Anglong where district headquarters Diphu remains the epicentre. So far, one dengue death has been reported in the state this year. The fatality was reported from Karbi Anglong recently,” said an health official.
In the neighbouring hill district of Dima Hasao, dengue-positive cases have gone up to 31, whereas the corresponding figures from Kamrup-Metro (Guwahati and neighbourhood) and Kamrup are 23 and 21 cases this season.
“Dengue cases are on the rise, mainly because of better surveillance. But hospitalisation rate is still low. More and more people suffering from fever are coming forward for dengue tests,” the official said.
Jorhat district in upper Assam has recorded 16 dengue cases till Monday.
