Guwahati, Sept 19: A joint operation by Guwahati and Kamrup Police on Sunday led to recovery of a huge consignment of heroin from the Hijubari area of Guwahati.
Sources said an encounter took place between the police and the drug peddlers but the drug peddlers managed to escape from the place leaving behind the consignment of heroin.
It is suspected that among four drug peddlers one of them was injured during the firing.
It is estimated that the market value of recovered drugs is about Rs 3 crore.
Assam CM lauds police action against drug peddling
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while sharing pictures of the recovered heroin, lauded the efforts of Guwahati and Kamrup Police.
CM Sarma informed that during the operation, the joint team of police was able to recover 0.5 kg of heroin at Hijubari.

Assam police motivated by CM’s tweet
Guwahati Police while sharing the tweet of Chief Minister Sarma thanked the CM and informed that the operation against drugs was led by Joint Commissioner of police, Guwahati and the Kamrup Deputy Commissioner of Police (headquarters).
“Thank You for your kind words, Sir! We assure you once again that we are committed to take the #WarOnDrugs to it’s logical conclusion by eradicating this menace from our beloved State. Today’s operation was led by Jt CP, Guwahati & DSP, HQ Kamrup (R),” Guwahati Police tweeted.
While thanking the Assam chief minister for his appreciation, Kamrup Police tweeted: “Thank you sir for your kind words of appreciation. We are committed to your vision for a #DrugFree Assam.”
Assam Govt’s crackdown on drug peddling
Recently, Assam Police have seized huge quantity of contraband drugs from various areas of the State and arrested many peddlers.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has given a free hand to the Assam Police to root out drugs from the society.
As per instruction of CM, police have been working relentlessly against the illegal trade of drugs.
