Tura, Mar 1: An awareness programme on welfare schemes of the government, services and legal aid was held today at Baghmara in South Garo Hills.
Organised by Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority (MSLSA) and The High Court Legal Services Committee, Shillong in collaboration with various state government departments.
During the programme, special focus was laid on the theme “Back to School”, which urged all stakeholders to work together with the community to minimise drop-out and ensure that children are brought to schools.
Justice H.S. Thangkhiew, Judge, High Court of Meghalaya graced the occasion.
Others who were present included Justice W. Diengdoh, Judge, High Court of Meghalaya and Chairman, High Court Legal Services Committee.
Addressing the gathering, Justice Thangkhiew spoke on the importance of organising these camps in different parts of the State. He said that the objective of the programme is to make people aware of the various Government services.
“The programme will facilitate to bridge the gap between the Departments or service providers and the public, who need these services,” he said.
He also exhorted the gathering to take advantage of these mega camps with all the services and facilities available in one location.
At the inaugural ceremony, assistive devices were handed over to the specially abled persons, and financial assistance to different SHGs and village organisations under National Rural Livelihood Mission.
More than 40 government department and agencies participated in the camp, with free facilities and services for Aadhaar, MHIS enrollment, Legal Aid Services and medical stalls.
