Awareness program on ‘Responsible and Sustainable Mining’ held

Meghalaya, Oct 27: The Directorate of Mineral Resources, Government of Meghalaya with the support from the Forest Environment Department (MSPCB) and Geological Survey of India on October 27 held an awareness program on Responsible and Sustainable Mining with the sub-theme ‘A way forward for better tomorrow and a clean environment’ at Rev. Anthony Crockett Memorial Hall, Shangpung Mission in Meghalaya’s West Jaintia hills.

The programme was presided by Stephan Lamo, Asst. Geologist, while FA Warjri delivered the welcome address.

In her address, DD Syngngai, ADC, stated that when we mine minerals we also need to mine sustainably and keep in mind that we need to protect the environment.

The resource persons during the programme were Dr. B Mawthoh, Geological Survey of India, Shri M. Syrti, District Mining Officer, DN War (ACF) Forest and Environment, and Shri. MS Tiewsoh, Asst Environment Engineer, MSPCB where they deliberated on the topic of the programme which is ‘Responsible and Sustainable Mining’
