Jowai, Sept 10: The Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, Jowai, West Jaiñtia Hills District on Friday organised an Awareness Programme on Maintenance And Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens at the District Library Auditorium Mynthong, Jowai.
Representatives and leaders of various organisations and retired officers took part in the programme.
The objective of the programme was to create awareness on various welfare schemes for senior citizens and topics like the healthcare of senior citizens and the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007 were thoroughly discussed.
J. Synnah, the District Social Welfare Officer, Jowai, appealed on the NGOs and the Civil Society groups of the district to work together with the Government in implementing various schemes and for the establishment of institutions to protect the rights of senior citizens.
The (Rtd) Deputy Director of the Social Welfare Department, K. Lamar being a resource person explained on the ‘Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007’ and its ‘Amendment’ in 2019.
