Bakdil collabs with DSWO to observe International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking

Tura, June 26: The Office of the District Social Welfare Officer in collaboration with Bakdil NGO observed the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on Wednesday at the Bakdil Conference Hall, Chandmari, Tura, with the objective of creating awareness among the population regarding the impacts of drug abuse and illicit trafficking, specially among the youths.

The event was graced by Rev. Bonjera A Sangma, Garo Baptist Convention, Tura; Rt. Rev. Andrew R Marak, Bishop of Tura; Bilgrak Marak, Social Worker, Tura Civil Hospital; A. Chakravarty, Senior Advocate, DLSA; Inspector B Hajong, Crime Branch, S.P Office, Tura; Rev. Fr. Cyril, Director of Bakdil and Silje A Sangma, District Social Welfare Officer, Tura. Members of NDWA, SHG, Marian Sodality and ICYM were also invited.

The event also held an open house discussion regarding the issue in order to foster initiatives to prevent substance abuse, illicit trafficking and illicit selling of drugs in and around West Garo Hills.

The program also saw a prize distribution for the winners of poster making competition on the topic of drug abuse previously held at the Upper Wadanang Secondary School, Tura. Teangrik Ch Marak, Elina D Sangma and Radiush S Marak were awarded the first, second and third prize, respectively, whereas Dalkame D Shira and Bathnagar D Sangma received the consolation prizes. The event ended with all the attendees taking the anti-drug pledge.
