Tura, Aug 21: The Bengalee Association (BA), Garo Hills region, while strongly condemning the attack on the innocent Hindu minority community in Bangladesh by extremist groups has urged the Bangladesh caretaker government to ensure their safety and security.

The association said since the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on August 5 there has been a surge in attacks against the Hindu minority community. “There has been lootings, kidnappings, brutal killings, and other unlawful activities, disproportionately affecting the Hindu minority community,” the association said.

BA pointed out that the Hindu community contributed significantly for Bangladesh’s freedom from Pakistan struggle in 1971, but they still continue to face persecution.

“We urge the current caretaker government of Bangladesh to take swift and sincere action against the perpetrators and ensure the safety and security of the minority Hindu population”, BA said.

The association also extended its “support and solidarity to the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh and to all those affected by these atrocities.”
