Shillong, Dec 14: In a major boost to local artisans, the Meghalaya government has provided financial assistance and logistical support to help them showcase their skills and products at the Winter Tales Festival 2024 in Shillong.
Sambertosh Ch. Sangma, a local artisan from Tura, is one such beneficiary who has received significant support from the government.
Talking to Hub News, Sangma narrated his story of struggle and success. “I received Rs 5 lakh from the government, which I used for buying tools and create handicraft items,” Sangma said. “With this financial assistance, I was able to travel outside my village four times to exhibit my skills and sell my products.”
Sangma expressed his gratitude to the government for providing him with financial assistance, as well as logistical support, including transportation, food, and lodging, to participate in the Winter Tales Festival.
“This support has been a big relief for me, as it has helped me overcome my financial struggles and showcase my skills to a wider audience,” he said.
The Meghalaya government’s initiative to support local artisans has been widely appreciated, and Sangma’s story is a testament to the positive impact of this initiative.
As the Winter Tales Festival 2024 came to a close on Saturday, Sangma and other local artisans are hopeful that their products will continue to attract attention and support, helping them to build a sustainable livelihood.
