Shillong, Nov 2: The Ministry of Railways, in partnership with IRCTC Ltd., is set to launch the ‘North East Discovery’ tour, aiming to spotlight the relatively unexplored North Eastern states of India,” as per a Ministry statement.
As per an official announcement, this specially curated tour aboard the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist train is scheduled to embark from Delhi Safdarjung Railway Station on November 16, 2023.

‘North East Discovery’ tour: ScheduleÂ
The tour includes visits to Guwahati, Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Kaziranga in Assam, as well as Unakoti, Agartala, and Udaipur in Tripura. The tour will also explore Dimapur and Kohima in Nagaland, and Shillong and Cherrapunji in Meghalaya, all over the span of a 15-day journey.
Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train: Features and Specifications
The Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train is equipped with a range of modern amenities, including two dining cars/restaurants, a state-of-the-art kitchen with flameless technology, shower cubicles in AC I and AC II coaches, sensor-operated washroom facilities, a foot massager, and a mini library for passengers’ convenience.
The train offers three categories of air-conditioned accommodations: AC I, AC II, and AC III. For enhanced security, the train is equipped with CCTV cameras, electronic safes, and dedicated security guards assigned to each coach, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for passengers.
About 14 nights and 15 days JourneyÂ
Over the course of 14 nights and 15 days, the Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC Tourist Train will embark on an exciting journey. The initial stop is in Guwahati, where tourists will explore the Kamakhya Temple, followed by visits to the Umananda Temple and a memorable sunset cruise on the Brahmaputra River.
The journey continues with an overnight trip to Naharlagun Railway Station, which is conveniently located just 30 km from Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh.
The next destination is Sivasagar, the ancient capital of the Ahom Kingdom in Eastern Assam. Tourists will have the opportunity to visit the renowned Shiva temple, Sivadol, along with other heritage sites such as Talatal Ghar and Rang Ghar (Colosseum of the East).
The tour also includes a visit to the tea gardens in Jorhat and an overnight stay in Kaziranga, where travelers can enjoy an early morning jungle safari at Kaziranga National Park.
The train then departs for the state of Tripura, where guests will explore the famous heritage site of Unakoti in the lush Jampui Hills. They will proceed to the capital city of Agartala, where the tour encompasses visits to iconic landmarks like the Ujjayanta Palace, Neermahal, and the Tripura Sundari Mandir in Udaipur.
After exploring Tripura, the train heads to Dimapur to cover the state of Nagaland. Passengers can enjoy the scenic train journey from Badarpur station to Lumding Junction during the early morning hours. Upon reaching Dimapur station, tourists will be transported to Kohima by buses, where they will explore local sites and experience the unique Naga way of life, including a tour of Khonoma village.
