Shillong, Feb 4: BJP chief spokesperson M Kharkrang on Saturday said the central leadership of the party has not asked for the names of candidates from Shillong and Tura parliamentary constituencies.
“Till now they (central leadership) has not asked for the names although some of them have given the applications for party ticket but these are not being forwarded to Delhi as yet because they have yet to ask from the state leadership,” he said.
Kharkrang said that the party expects the elections to be held only in the month of April. “Perhaps within this month, we should be expecting (to send the names of the candidates to Delhi),” he added.
Cabinet minister and six-time legislator from Pynthorumkhrah AL Hek had recently maintained that he is ready to contest from Shillong seat if party leadership insisted.
Others who are vying for the party ticket from Shillong seat include former BJP state president Ernest Mawrie and advocate Fenela Lyngdoh Nonglait.
Meanwhile, Kharkrang ruled out the possibility of a pre-poll alliance with the ruling National People’s Party (NPP). “No I don’t see any pre-poll alliance. I don’t see any reason why there should be any pre-poll,” he said.
