BJP legislator Sanbor Shullai asks BSF troops to shoot Bangladeshi immigrants trying to enter India

Shillong, Aug 7: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and South Shillong MLA, Sanbor Shullai, has asked the BSF troops to take strong action if there is any illegal crossing from the Bangladesh side into India, and if necessary, resort to shooting them down.

The bold statement from the BJP legislator comes following speculation that there are incidents where Bangladeshi are trying to infiltrate into India through Umngot river following the continuous turmoil in Bangladesh.

The BJP leader, who is also the Chairman of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), visited the people at the Meghalaya-Bangladesh border in Dawki-Tamabil and Pyrdiwah. “My visit to the border area, especially to Pyrdiwah, is because I don’t want an incident like what happened in 2001 to happen again. Bangladeshi troops attacked and occupied this village,” he said.

He met with the residents of Pyrdiwah and also with the BSF officials patrolling the area to inquire about the measures taken by the troops to provide security and ensure the safety of the residents.

The BSF officials said the Government of India has intensified the security forces on the border with Meghalaya and has already sent troops of the Bihar Regiment to assist the BSF in patrolling.
