Shillong, Nov 18: BJP state president Ernest Mawrie on Friday said the party will issue tickets to only winning candidates. Mawrie told reporters that as directed by the central leadership, the party will be contesting from all the 60 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.

Stating that there are constituencies where the party is having multiple aspirant candidates, Mawrie however said, “But I am very confident the party will issue the ticket to the winning candidates. In line with the survey report, the central parliamentary committee will sit and decide the ticket.”

According to him, there are two survey reports. Now the second survey report is on the way. “After collecting all this information, the winning candidates will be allotted with the ticket,” he added.

The BJP state president also clarified that there is no confusion as far as ticket is concerned from North Shillong constituency and said both M Kharkrang, who is former IPS officer and party spokesperson, and Michael Kharsyntiew are ticket aspirants.

“We cannot declare anybody as an official candidate as they are aspirant candidates for the ticket. Even as the state president, I am the aspirant candidate from West Shillong,” he said.

When asked, Mawrie said he cannot give any statement with regards to the details of the survey report as “We are yet to finalize the report.” He however added, “Everything will be clear by the first week of December. The joint coordinator from Delhi will come and we will have a long meeting to discuss the reports and then national general secretary (organization) BL Santosh will visit the state and visit the national president after that they will decide (on the ticket).”
