Shillong, April 12 : The Meghalaya unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is preparing to launch a series of workshops and awareness campaigns across the state to address and dispel misinformation surrounding the Waqf (Amendment) Act.
State BJP leader Gagan Jain informed that the initiative is being carried out under the direction of the party’s central leadership in New Delhi.
“We were informed and guided by our leadership that it is our responsibility to spread the truth about the Act and counter the misinformation being spread by the opposition,” Jain said.

Highlighting that the North Eastern states and tribal communities are excluded from the purview of the bill, he added, “We have to enlighten the tribal people about it.”
Describing the bill as a significant piece of legislation, Jain stated, “This is a very important bill. It will empower Muslim women who were not empowered before, benefit orphans, and also provide the right to appeal if the Waqf Board decides to take away someone’s property.”
He further noted, “Earlier, there was no right to appeal in cases of illegal or wrongful acquisition of property by the Waqf. This crucial issue has now been addressed by the new Act.”
The BJP plans to conduct these awareness drives over the coming weeks to ensure better understanding of the Act among the public.
