Shillong, Aug 31: The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has urged the State government to intervene into the ongoing stalemate between the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice Chancellor and the Meghalaya College Teachers’ Association (MCTA) over the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

“We have seen the differences between MCTA and NEHU (over the issue). For the benefit of the students in Meghalaya, we will send a representation to the education minister requesting the need to resolve this problem through dialogue,” Meghalaya BJP President Ernest Mawrie said here.

Stating that the NEP would benefit the students of the State, the BJP leader said, “But we are having loopholes everywhere and we are already late so who will be the loser, it is the students of our State. Yes, I agree there is a lot of financial implication but when we implement the NEP, the government has to send proposal (of requirement) to the Centre.”

When asked, Mawrie said, “Some of the principals have stated that they welcome the NEP implementation and some of them say we don’t as we have so many problems financially as well as in terms of infrastructure. When you start anything new, of course we will face a lot of problem but side by side you have to implement and write to the state government concerned as this problem can be solved only by the State and Central government.”
