Shillong, July 16: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is yet to decide on the candidate for the upcoming Gambegre bye-election.
“We are going to contest the upcoming bye election to the Gambegre Assembly seat,” BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek told reporters on Monday.
He, however, said that the party is yet to take a call on the selection of the candidate for the bye-election. “I cannot tell you as we have not yet received the application but once we get the application definitely, we will zero down to the best candidate,” Hek added.
Asked if BJP stood a chance with NPP fielding chief minister’s wife as its candidate for the bye-poll, Hek however said, “Election is election. We have to fight a tough fight, that’s all I know.”
“BJP is a national party and we are going to fight this election and chances depend on how many candidates applied. Now it’s too early to come to a conclusion,” he added.
To a question if Congress is emerging strong in Garo Hills, Hek said, “I know only about BJP and I cannot say anything about other political parties.”
