Boat capsizes in Odisha’s Mahanadi River, kills one, seven missing, rescue operations underway

Odisha April 20 : A boat capsizied in the Mahanadi River in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district has left one woman dead and seven others are missing, including three children. The incident occurred on Friday evening, and rescue operations are ongoing.

Reports from the police stated that the boat was carrying over 50 passengers when it capsized. Over 40 individuals have been successfully rescued. The search for the remaining seven passengers, including four women and three children, continues.

Aboli Sunil Naravane, DC Jharsuguda informed that Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) has been deployed to assist in the search efforts. He further informed that professional scuba divers are being mobilized from Bhubaneswar for underwater search.

“We are determined to locate the missing passengers as soon as possible,” 40 persons have been rescued and will safely returned to their villages , a body of 35-year-old woman was recovered he further stated.

This incident highlights the importance of water safety measures. Local authorities are investigating the cause of the incident and would implement stricter regulations to prevent similar occurrences in future.
