Guwahati, Jan 22: Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan called Assam Chief Minster Himanta Biswa Sarma and Rajeev Bora, CFO, Gold Cinema after Himanta Biswa Sarma made a controversy saying ‘who is Shahrukh Khan’ after Bajrang Dal activists stormed into a theatre at Narengi in Guwahati.

“Bollywood actor Shri @iamsrk called me and we talked today morning at 2 am. He expressed concern about an incident in Guwahati during screening of his film. I assured him that it’s duty of state govt to maintain law & order. We’ll enquire and ensure no such untoward incidents,” Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.

On Saturday, amid violent protests of Bajrang Dal in Assam against Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan, to be released on January 25, chief minister Sarma had remarked, “Who is Shah Rukh Khan? I don’t know anything about him or his film Pathaan.” The Chief Minister had said many Bollywood stars reach out to him ahead of the release of their films in case there are protests but Shah Rukh Khan had not called him.

Speaking to media persons, Rajeev Bora, CEO, Gold Cinema said, “It’s unfortunate incident. For the first time such incident happened in Assam. If they have problem with Cinema, we will not run cinema. We run cinema for the public. We are a small medium which runs cinema. We also appeal the organisation to not indulge in such activity.”

“Shah Rukh Khan called me and enquired about the incident. He asked all the details and (was) very much concerned about such incidents. The trend of ticket booking is very good till now,” Bora said.

Bora has also urged the people to protest at the source if they don’t want the screening but not to damage the cinema hall.
