Shillong, Oct 7: Cabinet Minister and legislator from Pynthorumkhrah AL Hek on Monday informed that the construction of the bridge near the BDW International School in Nongmensong will be completed within the next 4-5 months.

“We have already called the engineers yesterday (Sunday) and all cem together to the site and have already rectified but the bridge is not yet completed. They are going to complete the work by the next 4-5 months,” Hek told reporters.

The Shillong Traffic Police (STP) recently suspended movement of traffic over the bridge citing cracks on the bridge. “The newly constructed bridge near BDW International School has developed significant cracks and is unsafe for vehicular movement. To ensure the safety of commuters, the road has been temporarily closed,” STP said in a social media post.

Asked, Hek however said that the bridge with cracks is not the main bridge and is still under construction.

“Today, I have spoken to the chief engineer, the engineers and SDOs to ensure immediate sanction is given as the road is very important and urgently required to be restored,” he said while adding that the road is not closed.
