BRO re-constructs Indrani Bridge to link North Sikkim with rest of India

Must read

Guwahati, Aug 11: In a remarkable feat of engineering and determination, the Indrani Bridge in Sikkim has been reinstated, reconnecting the North Sikkim to the rest of India.

The Indrani Bridge, initially constructed by the Sikkim Public Works Department, was devastated by the catastrophic flash floods that struck the Teesta River valley on October 4, 2023. The severe damage to the road network and numerous bridges along the river left the northern region of Sikkim cut off from the rest of the country.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Sikkim government swiftly issued orders to finalize the construction of suspension bailey bridges. In a collaborative effort, a joint survey was conducted with GRSE, leading to the signing of an MOU for the construction of the Bailey Suspension Bridge.

After obtaining the necessary approvals and clearances, 764 BRTF of Project Swastik BRO commenced the construction of the 300-foot Bailey Suspension Bridge at the Indrani Bridge site. Their dedication and engineering expertise have been instrumental in ensuring the timely completion of this critical infrastructure project.

“BRO’s commitment to quality and timely completion shines through in this project,” said a local official. “Their engineering excellence is setting new standards in infrastructure development, and we are grateful for their tireless efforts in restoring connectivity to the people of Sikkim,” said a senior official of BRO.
