Shillong, Dec 23: In a major anti-smuggling operations along Meghalaya’s international border with Bangladesh, the troops of Border Security Force (BSF) apprehended 13 Bangladeshi nationals involved in smuggling activities on Sunday.
The troops of 4th Battalion of BSF Meghalaya Frontier also seized 35 bags of sugar along with other contraband items, including liquor, tea, copper wire, local cigarettes, skin cream, blankets, garlic, and other edible items.
The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs. 10.50 lakh.
Following the necessary formalities and a medical examination at PHC Dawki, the BSF has handed over the apprehended individuals to Dawki Police Station, West Jaintia Hills District, for further legal action.
The special operations were conducted at various locations in the East Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, and South Garo Hills districts.
In a statement, the Border Security Force reiterated that it remains unwavering in its commitment to safeguarding India’s borders and continues to combat cross-border illegal activities, including infiltration and smuggling.
