Shillong, April 30: In a significant crackdown on illegal activities, the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya has successfully thwarted two separate attempts to smuggle cattle and sugar across the Indo-Bangladesh border.
According to an official statement, on April 29, BSF troops rescued 28 cattle from two bolero pickups that were attempting to smuggle the animals into Bangladesh. The vehicles were intercepted near the South West Khasi Hills International border, and the drivers and co-drivers were apprehended. Upon inquiry, it was found that they did not possess any valid documents for the transportation of cattle. The seized cattle and apprehended persons were handed over to the local police for further legal action.
In a separate joint operation with the Meghalaya police, BSF troops seized a massive quantity of sugar, weighing over 16,000 kilograms, from an abandoned house near the International border of South Garo Hills. The sugar was intended for smuggling into Bangladesh. The seized sugar was handed to the local police station for further action.
The BSF’s vigilance and swift action have prevented the illegal smuggling of cattle and sugar and led to the apprehension of four Indian nationals. These operations are a testament to the BSF’s commitment to securing the Indo-Bangladesh border and preventing illegal activities.
