Shillong, Sep 1: The troops from the 193 Battalion of BSF Meghalaya, in a joint operation with the Meghalaya police, intercepted a civil bus and seized a large quantity of clothing items and sugar worth Rs 9 lakhs from the Barmanbari border area of East Khasi Hills District, which were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh on Thursday.
The operation was conducted based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the smuggling activities in the area. The seized items were being transported in a concealed manner to avoid detection at the border.
In the operation, the driver and co-driver of the said civil bus were also apprehended after they failed to justify the presence of clothing items and sugar. They also failed to produce any valid documents regarding the consignment.

The apprehended persons also revealed that they were coming from Shillong and that a consignment was being taken to the bordering village of Sonatala.
Meanwhile, arrested persons and seized items were handed over to PS-Danger for further legal action.
