BSF Meghalaya seizes cosmetic items worth Rs. 51 lakh on Indo-Bangladesh border

Shillong, Sept 10: BSF Meghalaya on Thursday seized cosmetic items worth Rs. 51 lakh along the international border when these items were being smuggled to Bangladesh. The smuggled items were confiscated in four different operations in Khasi Hills and Garo Hills.

Inspector General of BSF, Meghalaya Frontier, Inderjit Singh Rana in his statement said BSF Meghalaya has been doing their best to curb smuggling activities on Indo-Bangladesh border. He also appreciated and motivated the border men for their relentless duty on border in spite of adverse weather and terrain of Meghalaya Border.

Operation in East Khasi Hills

Acting on a tip off, troops of 30 Battalion BSF launched three special operations in the border areas of Border Out Post (BOP) Umsyiem, Dawki and Nayabazar in East Khasi Hills district and foiled the attempt of smugglers by seizing huge quantity of cosmetic items including fairness cream, Shampoo, Hair oil etc worth approx Rs. 25 Lakhs, which were being smuggled from India to Bangladesh.

Operation in South Garo Hills

In an another incident, BSF troops of BOP Sibbari, 55 Battalion BSF seized cosmetic items such as Soap and Fairness cream worth approx. Rs. 26 lakhs in South Garo Hills district while being smuggled to Bangladesh.

All the seized items were handed over to concerned Customs office for further legal action.
