Shillong, May 10: The Meghalaya Frontier Border Security Force (BSF) conducted an awareness program on the prevention and identification of rabies at the Muktapur community hall in the West Jaintia Hills district.
In an official press release, BSF Meghalaya informed that the initiative comes in response to two recent rabies cases reported in the Muktapur bordering area, one from Lakro Basti and another from Muktapur village. BSF troops evacuated both patients and transported them to the Civil Hospital Shillong via BSF ambulance.
Dr. Prajwal from the Veterinary Department of Sector HQ Jowai led the educational session, emphasizing the importance of timely vaccinations, responsible pet ownership, and prompt medical attention in the event of animal bites. The program, organized on May 9, aimed to educate the local community about the severe consequences of rabies and the essential measures for its prevention.
The event was attended by the local BSF Coy Commander, villagers, and Dr. Seiboklang Buam from the Veterinary Hospital Muktapur. It highlighted the collaborative effort between the BSF and local authorities in addressing public health concerns and ensuring the well-being of the bordering communities.
