Shillong, April 24: The Border Security Force (BSF), Meghalaya Frontier, has apprehended a total of 115 individuals, including 78 Bangladeshi nationals and 37 Indian nationals, for their involvement in illegal infiltration and smuggling activities in the first quarter of this year.
Despite various operational challenges, BSF personnel successfully foiled multiple infiltration attempts and apprehended six touts who were facilitating cross-border movements. These arrests enabled further action by police and other law enforcement agencies.
During the same period, BSF Meghalaya carried out a series of anti-smuggling operations, leading to the seizure of contraband items and 750 cattle, collectively valued at approximately Rs. 11.70 crore. Seized items included Yaba tablets, ganja, liquor, cosmetics, clothing, and other goods meant for illegal transport to Bangladesh.

Beyond its security mandate, BSF Meghalaya has also focused on community welfare in border areas. The force organized 13 blood donation camps, 22 Civic Action Programs, and conducted free health check-ups in remote villages. It also facilitated timely medical evacuations and distributed essential supplies to needy communities along the border.
To enhance border management and cooperation, BSF Meghalaya has maintained regular coordination with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) through field-level commander meetings. These engagements focused on resolving border issues, improving mutual trust, and addressing concerns related to smuggling routes and the movement of criminal elements.

According to the BSF Public Relations Officer, valuable intelligence was gathered during preliminary interrogations of the apprehended Bangladeshi nationals and touts. These inputs have been shared with state police and other enforcement agencies to assist in broader investigations and joint operations targeting illegal infiltration and smuggling networks. Information about smugglers and facilitators continues to be relayed to concerned agencies on a regular basis.
