Shillong, Aug 20: The Border Security Force (BSF) seized 220 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup from the international border of the East Khasi Hills district of the state on Saturday while they were being smuggled from India to Bangladesh.
This seizure was done following a tip-off, and the seized Phensedyl was further handed over to the concerned authority for further necessary action.
It is a codeine-based cough syrup used as a substitute for liquor, which is strictly prohibited in neighbouring Bangladesh. Since January 2023, BSF Meghalaya has seized more than 1300 bottles of Phensedyl while they were being taken to the international border, said an official from the BSF.
