The three personnel belong to G Company of the 4th Battalion of BSF.
The incident occurred on Friday evening (May 5, 2023) when the BSF shot Roning Nongkynrih, a father of two children, at Mawshun village under Pynursla sub division under East Khasi Hills, on suspicion of smuggling cows illegally. According to reports, Nongkynrih suffered severe injuries to his head and neck area, leading to his death.
The official further informed that soon after the incident, BSF Meghalaya Frontier Inspector General Pradip Kumar ordered a Court of Enquiry headed by a DIG rank officer, and, shortly after due process, passed arrest orders against three BSF personnel.
The KSU staged a non-violent protest on Monday in Pynursla, calling on the BSF to take strict action against the three personnel.
On the same day, an unidentified group of miscreants set fire to the BSF checkpoint shed at Lyngkhat.
