Agartala, Aug 10: Following the recent announcement by the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding upcoming polls and by-polls in various states across the nation, Puneet Agrawal, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Tripura, has revealed comprehensive details regarding the impending by-elections in two constituencies within Tripura’s Sepahijala district.

Agrawal, underlining the unwavering commitment to conducting a just, transparent, and tranquil by-election, has provided assurance that a series of measures have been meticulously instituted to tackle potential infringements and uphold the overall security of the process.

Taking to the press at the state secretariat on Thursday, Agrawal meticulously outlined the timeline for the by-election and underscored the collaborative efforts alongside law enforcement bodies, including the police and the Border Security Force (BSF), to pinpoint areas of heightened sensitivity.

A projected total of 93,234 eligible voters are poised to engage in the forthcoming by-election, with 43,087 constituents within the Boxanagar constituency and 50,147 within the Dhanpur assembly segment. These numbers encompass 20,921 female voters in Boxanagar and 24,203 in Dhanpur.

The slated by-elections are set to be carried out across 51 polling stations within the Boxanagar assembly constituency and 59 within the Dhanpur area.

Diligent endeavors are being pursued to ensure a seamless polling process, with the establishment of dedicated oversight committees and media monitoring panels. Control centers have been activated to promptly address any concerns and adhere steadfastly to ECI directives.

To ensure an environment of security and order during the by-election, Agrawal has confirmed the deployment of central security forces, tasked with maintaining area control and upholding security. Given Tripura’s extensive border with Bangladesh, steps are being taken to thwart unauthorized entry and infiltration, with stringent vigilance upheld by BSF authorities.

The by-polls for the Boxanagar and Dhanpur seats was necessitated by the unfortunate demise of CPI-M MLA Samsul Haque and the voluntary resignation of Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Pratima Bhowmik. The by-polls are scheduled to take place on September 5.

With the formal announcement of the by-election, the model code of conduct has been promptly enacted, and the acceptance of nominations is currently underway, set to conclude on August 17.

Nomination submissions will undergo review on August 18, affording candidates the option to retract their nominations until August 21.

The designated polling day is September 5, with the ballot counting process slated for September 8, ensuring the comprehensive conclusion of the entire sequence by September 10.
