Capacity building and culinary skill training for tourism stakeholders held in Garo Hills

Tura, July 31: The Meghalaya State Skill Development Society, in collaboration with the Department of Labour, Employment and Skill Development and the Tourism Department, has launched a comprehensive training program on Basic Cooking Skills for tourism stakeholders in the Garo Hills region.

The training, conducted in partnership with Arrosa’s Kitchen, commenced on Monday (July 29, 2024) and is being held in various locations including Tura, Ampati, and other district headquarters across Garo Hills.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to build capacity and enhance the skills of individuals involved in the tourism sector.

In Tura, 30 participants have enrolled in the program, while in South West Garo Hills, 20 trainees from various homestays, restaurants, and fast-food establishments have joined the first batch. The program is also being conducted simultaneously in other districts of the region.

Spanning 20 hours, the course is designed to equip participants with fundamental culinary skills, aimed at strengthening their ability to meet the demands of the tourism industry. The training seeks to empower local communities, enabling them to actively participate in and benefit from tourism development.

Participants expressed their enthusiasm for the opportunity, with some in Tura sharing their satisfaction with Hub News: “We are very happy to receive this type of training, especially since it’s free of cost. We hope to learn the necessary culinary skills and apply them in our future endeavors.”

The training program aims to improve the overall quality of service provided to tourists, enhancing customer satisfaction and loyalty. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance the tourism experience in West and South West Garo Hills, as well as other districts, benefiting both tourists and the local community.
