TURA, July 29: Cash rewards and appreciation certificates have been issued by Meghalaya police to the valiant policemen and women who unflinchingly performed their duties warding off dozens of rioters who attacked the chief minister’s mini secretariat in Tura on July 24th evening even as chief minister Conrad K Sangma was inside holding talks with protesting ACHIK organization leaders on Monday night.
West Garo Hills Superintendent of Police V S Rathore informed that cash rewards of Rs 5000/- each and letters of appreciation are being handed over to 12 Meghalaya Police and Home Guard personnel who risked their lives in the line of duty on that fateful night.
Letters of appreciation have also been issued to 7 CRPF personnel who also sustained injuries on that same night.
The chief minister Conrad K Sangma has also announced a sum of fifty thousand rupees to each of the security force personnel who were injured in the mob attack and all medical expenses of the injured uniformed men will be borne by the state.
The total number of attackers and alleged instigators of Monday night’s violence who have been arrested have risen to 47 (Male 40 and 7 females).
