Shillong, Nov 10: Thousands of Catholic faithful gathered for the annual Eucharistic Procession in and around the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, located in Laitumkhrah within the Shillong Archdiocese, on Sunday.
The day began with morning prayers, followed by a solemn Holy Mass at 9:15 a.m., marking the start of the solemn procession.
The Holy Mass was conducted by Shillong Archbishop, Most Rev Victor Lyngdoh, along with other bishops—Most Rev Wilbert Marwein of Nongstoiñ and Most Rev Ferdinand Dkhar of Jowai.
In the afternoon, the procession commenced at 1:30 p.m., moving from the Calvary area through Dhankheti, Shillong-Jowai Road, Laitumkhrah Main Road, Don Bosco Square and back to Calvary.
The annual Eucharistic Procession attracted Catholics from Shillong and surrounding archdioceses such as Jowai and Nongstoiñ, filling the city streets in a display of devotion. Known as “Corpus Christi” or “the Body of Christ,” this revered tradition dates back to 1247 in Liege, Belgium and has since become a globally significant event in the Catholic Church, celebrated widely for its spiritual significance.
