CAU gets new Administrative-cum-Academic Blocks in Mizoram and Nagaland

Tura, May 16: The Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal got new Administrative-cum-Academic Block and Transit Building at the College of Horticulture, Thenzawl in Mizoram, and the Administrative-cum-Academic Block and Farmers’ Fair at the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie in Nagaland, on Thursday.

The inauguration ceremony at Thenzawl was graced virtually by the Governor of Mizoram, Gen (Dr.) V.K. Singh, and officiated by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who inaugurated the new buildings online. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Anupam Mishra delivered an inspiring opening address, setting the tone for a day that celebrated growth, collaboration, and excellence.

Chief Minister of Mizoram, Lalduhoma, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the role of agricultural education in driving regional prosperity. The event also witnessed the presence of key dignitaries including Franklin L. Khobung, Minister of Horticulture, Dr. Sunil Doley, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, and several senior officials from CAU and the state government.

A major highlight of the day was a Horticultural Exhibition, featuring innovative practices and technologies from across the region. The active participation of over 1,500 farmers and several Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) underscored the university’s strong ties with farming communities and its role in promoting farmer-led innovation and growth.

Simultaneously, at Jalukie, Nagaland, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the Administrative-cum-Academic Block and Farmers’ Fair at the College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry.

The College of Community Science, Tura, led by Dr. Jyoti V. Vastrad, Dean, along with faculty and students, virtually attended the programs, joining in the celebration of CAU’s continued efforts to expand and strengthen higher agricultural education across the region.

These twin inauguration ceremonies represent an enhancement in academic infrastructure and promoting sustainable, farmer-centric research and extension in horticulture and animal husbandry.
