Shillong, Nov 7: The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) and Press Information Bureau (PIB) organised a large-scale cleaning drive at Khyndailad on Thursday, drawing participation from college students, BSF and CRPF personnel and local shopkeepers.
Riatsamthiah Headman, M. Kharkrang, who joined the drive, stressed that maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility. “People often blame the Shillong Municipal Board and government agencies, but shopkeepers, pedestrians, hawkers and residents all need to participate if we want Shillong to be a truly clean city,” he said.
At the event, BJP leader A.L. Hek highlighted the importance of cleanliness as a deeply rooted tradition in Meghalaya. Hek pointed to the success of Mawlynnong, Asia’s cleanest village, where locals have taken full responsibility for maintaining cleanliness.
