Celebrating 75th Indian Independence Day with bright hope for young achievers

Dadenggre, Aug 17: Limiting one’s talents due to financial crisis is the main hurdle youth are facing while nurturing their talents. The SBI Foundation came up with SBI OJAS – Rural Talent Scholarship for young achievers to break these hurdles and help them achieve their goals.

On the occasion of 75th Indian Independence Day, the SBI Foundation awarded SBI OJAS Rural Talent Scholarship for five young female achievers from Dadenggre Block amounting Rs 600 for sports category and Rs 500 for crafting category. Shri Jagdish Chelani, IAS, Civil SDO Dadenggre awarded the cheques.

Three girls from Dadenggre Tangme Sangma, Airitha Sangma and Tengsil Sangma have played in the state level football tournaments, however due to unavailability of coaching institutions and financial weaknesses they could not nurture their talents properly. This SBI OJAS Scholarship will help them in procuring sports equipments and taking admissions in coaching institutions.

On the art and culture category two girls Treliza Marak and Rikre Marak have been awarded for their entrepreneurship skills in making home decorations and paper crafting. Facilitating them with such schemes encourage them to do better in their respective field. “Having born in the poor family we couldn’t upgrade our skills and talents because we could not buy enough materials and there’s no one to even guide us”, said the awardees.

They also expressed their grievances for not being able to produce high quality products as they are using chart paper as the raw materials for crafting various marketable items. “We wanted to make more products from other than chart papers like, feathers, rings etc but we couldn’t order raw materials from outside and such raw materials are not available in local markets”, they said.

With these scholarships scheme there is hope for the talented youths in future to nurture and develop their skill. “This is the first scholarships we are giving to the achievers which falls to poor families. Such more schemes will continue as per the project funded by SBI Foundation, Mumbai”, sai Mr Benedict Project Coordinator.

The SBI Foundation funded Gram Seva Project was launched on 2nd October 2020 and it is SBI’s first ever project being implemented in Garo Hills with BAKDIL as an implementing agent. It is the rural development program with purpose to bring socio economic change in the rural areas through adoption of villages.
