Williamnagar, Nov 10: The Sacred Heart Parish of Williamnagar celebrated its Parish Day from November 7 to 10. Catholic believers, along with the sisters and priests of the Williamnagar area, gathered to honour their community and unity within the parish, commemorating its unique identity and mission.
Parish Day serves as a time for members to come together, strengthen their faith, and celebrate shared beliefs and values. It’s also an opportunity to reflect on the parish’s history, renew commitments to serve one another, and welcome new members into the community.
On Sunday, Fr. Lenus R. Marak of Jengal Parish conducted the Holy Mass. In his sermon, he reminded the congregation of God’s boundless love, drawing on the story of the prophet Elijah and the widow of Zarephath. During a time of drought and famine, Elijah asked the widow for water and bread, though she only had a handful of flour and a little oil, enough for one last meal for her and her son. Elijah assured her that God would provide, and miraculously, her flour and oil did not run out until the famine ended.
Fr. Marak shared that this story is a testament to how God loves people when they love others unconditionally. He encouraged everyone to always offer their best to God and advised parents to consider sending their most beloved children to serve as priests.
On this special day, around 104 children received their First Communion, marking a significant milestone in their faith journey. They also performed a beautiful song, adding to the joyous celebration. People from all walks of life offered their gifts as a sign of love and respect to God and the parish.
Following the Mass, a Eucharistic procession took place as a public demonstration of faith, reverence, and devotion to the presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.
The consecrated Eucharist was carried through the streets, from the Fire Brigade Junction to the DC Office Junction via Soil Junction, and back to Sacred Heart Parish.
This act symbolizes the belief that Christ’s presence brings blessings and sanctifies the area, representing God’s protection and grace over the community.
The procession fostered unity among parishioners and served as a powerful witness of faith to others. By walking together in prayer and devotion, Catholics in Williamnagar demonstrated the communal strength of their faith and their deep devotion to Christ.
