Centenary celebration marking arrival of Salesians of Don Bosco in NE concludes

Shillong, Oct 30: The centenary celebration of the arrival of the Salesians of Don Bosco in the North Eastern Region concluded on Sunday with the Holy Eucharistic Mass at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Laitumkhrah, Shillong.

The celebration started on October 28, 2022, with the Youth Expo in which youth from different parts of the North Eastern region took part in the many competitions that was hosted at the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Shillong.

Thousands of believers joined the Holy Eucharistic Mass which was read by the Nuncio of India and Nepal, Leopoldo Girelli and joined by the Archbishop of Shillong Victor Lyngdoh and priests from all the parishes in the State and North East as a whole along with the Chief Minister of the State, Conrad K Sangma, and other cabinet ministers on Sunday morning.

Nuncio stated that it was on 21 June 1921 that the Salesians of Don Bosco arrived in the North Eastern Region and set up three provinces – Guwahati, Dimapur and Shillong. He also thanked the Salesian of Don Bosco for their dedicated services to the people of the North Eastern region and the pastoral services to the people of the region.

A book called “The History of Salesians from 1922 to 2022” was also released on the occasion by Nuncio and Father Paul Lyngkot, Province of Shillong.
