Shillong, Jan 12: In a major relief to the students of the state waiting for their scholarships, the Government of India has released the second instalment of the Post Matric Scholarships to Scheduled Tribe Students for the year 2022-23.
The order for the sanction and release of the grant-in-aid for the scholarships’ payment was issued on January 12, 2024 by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs (Scholarship Division). The letter, a copy of which Hub News has accessed, was addressed to the Pay & Accounts Officer of Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
The sanctioned amount is Rs. 41,25,00,000.
However, it is understood that the amount has not yet been credited into Meghalaya Government’s account, which could take a few days. Nonetheless, with the centre releasing the funds, it is only a matter of days the students will see the amount in their registered accounts.
Following the communication from the Centre on the release of funds, Meghalaya education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma said the state will try to process the funds at the earliest so that students can get the amount by next week.
He also emphasised that the state government is committed to resolve all the issues of the student community and is regularly pressing the Centre for the same. He further urged the students to use the scholarship amount wisely.
