Centre sanctions 493 crores to Assam and Tripura for better road connectivity

Guwahati, July 12: The Centre has cleared the construction of 78 roads in Assam and Tripura to strengthen rural connectivity and accelerate economic growth in the Northeastern region.

In Tripura 42 roads measuring 118.756 km with an estimated investment of Rs. 114.32 crore have been sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan.

This will provide all-weather road connectivity to 47 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups(PVTG) habitations in the State and improve their socio-economic condition.

“It will enhance connectivity in rural areas, bridging the gap between remote villages and urban centres and foster economic development, trade, and commerce in the region,” a government official said.

The official said it will improve access to essential services like healthcare, education, and create employment opportunities and stimulate local economies.

He said the projects under Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan will have a transformative impact on the region, contributing to the growth and prosperity of the Tribal Groups in North-Eastern region and cementing the government’s commitment to inclusive development.

In Assam, the Ministry of Rural Development has sanctions 78 roads measuring 563.67 km and 14 bridges with an estimated investment of Rs. 378.68 crore under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana -III.

The initiative will improve access to essential services like healthcare, education, and markets and enhance connectivity in rural areas, bridging the gap between remote villages and urban centres.
