Shillong, July 28: The Centre will soon release the funds for the smooth implementation of SSA programme in Meghalaya. This was informed by the Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong here on Thursday.

“We have recently met the officials of the Ministry of Finance and the Chief Minister himself had already spoken to the Union Finance Minister (for her necessary intervention) because everything is lying with the ministry and good indication was given that very soon they (Centre) are going to release the instalment which is due to the state of Meghalaya,” he said.

On July 21, the state government had assured to release Rs 122 crore for payment of four months’ pending salary to over 12,541 SSA teachers after they decided to sleep on the streets.

The written assurance issued to the MSSASA had stated that the state government will release the pending salary capping norms amounting to Rs 44 crore by the end of the day. It had also said that the state government will also replenish the Corpus Fund of Rs 78 crore when the first installment is received from the Centre. The remaining one-month salary will be paid on receipt of funds from Government of India.
