Tura, July 1: Union Minister of State (MoS) for Food Processing, Rameswar Teli on Thursday visited the site of the Mega Food Park at Mendipathar in North Garo Hills (NGH) during his tour of Garo Hills to interact with the members of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) at Tura.

Speaking at a programme organised to welcome the Union MoS at Tura, Teli said the Ministry of Food Processing, Government of India has sanctioned an ambitious project for Meghalaya – the first Mega Food Park, which is being established at Mendipathar in North Garo Hills. He also said that a Mini Food Park has also been sanctioned for the State.
He said that the establishment of the Mega Food Park at Mendipathar will accommodate 25 food processing unit. Each food processing unit will cost about Rs. 10 crore, of which 5 crore will be provided by the Ministry of Food Processing.
He told the gathering that Government of India has put tremendous trust on encouraging and promoting the diversity of natural resources and the potential of food processing industries in the North East.
He said that the establishment of the Mega Food Park will benefit the people of the State and will enable the products of Garo Hills to be put in different national and international markets. The meeting was attended by all MDCs and was hosted by CEM of GHADC Benedic R. Marak, Dy CEM Nikman Marak and Chairman of GHADC Rakesh A. Sangma.
