Shillong, July 12: The Centre for Environment Protection and Rural Development (CEPARD), based in Garo Hills, has raised alarm over the increasing water levels of the Jinjiram and Brahmaputra rivers.
In a press statement, CEPARD president, Samgar R Sangma, highlighted the severe threat posed by these rising water levels to the safety and well-being of communities along the riverbanks. “The impact of climate change is increasingly evident,” stated Samgar R Sangma. “The rising water levels are a significant threat to our communities, and the situation grows more critical each day.”
Emphasizing the importance of striving towards carbon neutrality, Sangma called for collective efforts to address these pressing environmental challenges. “Our commitment to promoting sustainable practices is crucial in combating climate change and protecting our natural resources,” he added.
“We urge the community to come together and support initiatives aimed at preserving our environment for future generations. It is only through collective effort and advocacy that we can hope to create a more sustainable and resilient world,” he further said.
CEPARD is looking forward to widespread support in spreading awareness and taking concrete steps to safeguard the environment.
