Ampati, March 12: Reaffirming Government’s commitment to bringing health care within the reach of the people, the newly constructed Chelipara Sub-Centre under PM-ABHIM and located near Ampati, was inaugurated by MLA of Mahendraganj, South West Garo Hills, Sanjay A Sangma at an impressive inaugural function at the Sub-Centre premises on Monday.
He unveiled the inaugural plaque and opened the Sub Centre in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner, R.P. Marak, Boldamgre MDC, Stevie M Marak, BDO Betasing C&RD Block, C.R. N. Sangma, DMHO, SWGH Dr. H. Barman and other Medical & Health officials, Nokma of Chelipara and Village Health Council members, Church leaders and people of the area.

The Sub Centre is a felt need of the people of Chelipara and its adjoining villages and is one of the two such Centres to be inaugurated in the district under the Prime Minister Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) scheme in the first phase. The Sub-Centre was constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 55 lakh by Chelipara VHC, led by its Secretary & Pastor of the village, A.M. Sangma, and will provide health care services to around 4,000 population of nine villages including Chelipara village.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, the Legislator termed the construction of such new Sub-Centres as an outcome of the initiative taken by the government both at the Centre and the state as well as the department in response to the needs of people and fill the critical gaps in health care infrastructure. “As representatives of the people, it is our desire and commitment to serve and uplift our people and see our societies and villages flourish”, he said and urged upon the parents, particularly the mothers to take utmost care of their own health so that they can raise healthy homes and healthy children. He also called upon the people of the area to take full ownership and provide all necessary support and cooperation in management of the Sub Centre.
The PM-ABHIM is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme with some Central Sector Components, for implementation of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Package for health sector. The objective of the scheme is to fill critical gaps in health infrastructure, surveillance and health research, spanning both the urban and rural areas so that the communities are empowered in managing such pandemic or health crises.
Deputy Commissioner, R.P. Marak in his brief address on the occasion, commended the achievement of the health infrastructure as a testimony of government’s commitment to public health care. He however expressed his concern over high infant mortality in the district and said that the Sub Centre should be a two-way system with both the health care givers and the people responding effectively to raise the standard of health parameters of the district.
Earlier, the DMHO, H. Barman welcomed the gathering and briefly informed about the construction of the two Sub Centres in the district under PM-ABHIM in the first phase and the upcoming projects in the second phase. He said prior to the construction of this Sub Centre the villagers of Chelipara and nearby villages had to go all the way to Jongchetpara Sub Centre for all their medical needs which was a tedious process due to its location and distance.
District MCH Officer Dr Noreen Sangma in her keynote address gave a few highlights on PM-ABHIM and the number of services that would be available at the new Sub Centre. Free medical checkup and IEC were also conducted at the Sub Centre premises by the MHOs and doctors before the inauguration.
