Tura, June 1: The Tura Football League semi-finals of the Super Division kicked off with a thrilling match between the top two teams, Chipakkore FC and Selsella SA, at the P. A. Sangma Stadium on Saturday.
Chipakkore FC has been dominating the league table since the onset of the Tura Football League, amassing 21 points with zero losses. Selsella SA sits right behind in second place with 16 points and only one loss in the league matches.
The first semi-final match featured exciting gameplay between the two contenders, with beautiful goals, clear misses, and cautionary cards awarded to players throughout the match, keeping the crowd raving.
Right from the first whistle, Chipakkore FC opened the scoring early with Balthu M. Marak smashing a beautiful goal in the 8th minute. Adding to the lead, Brojen Muchahary found the back of the net in the 23rd minute.
Selsella SA responded swiftly with Jempujiang A. Sangma’s goal in the 25th minute, to which Chipakkore FC replied immediately with Akim R. Sangma securing a goal in the 26th minute.
The back-and-forth scoring continued when Balthu M. Marak scored another goal in the 39th minute for Chipakkore FC, countered by Chicheng Momin with his goal in the 44th minute for Selsella SA.
The first half ended with Chipakkore FC leading 4-2 against Selsella SA.
Returning from the break with renewed energy, Chipakkore FC maintained decent ball possession, and their efforts paid off when Akim R. Sangma scored his second goal in the 65th minute.
During the second half, luck seemed to elude Selsella SA as they were unable to convert some clear chances, and their manager Opot Sangma received a yellow card in the 49th minute for misconduct.
However, Selsella did get a chance at redemption when Chicheng Momin scored a penalty goal in the 96th minute.
With the final whistle, Chipakkore FC celebrated their 5-3 victory against Selsella SA, advancing to the finals.
In the Chipakkore FC team, yellow cards were awarded to Chusrang Ch. Sangma in the 54th minute and Silsrang K. Sangma in the 96th minute. Meanwhile, in the Selsella SA team, yellow cards were given to Jempujiang A. Sangma in the 19th minute and Simprang M. Marak in the 84th minute.
